🚨 SYNERGIES – New Tools for Better Crisis Management! 🚨

The EU-funded research project SYNERGIES, under the HORIZON programme, focuses on innovative solutions to revolutionize disaster preparedness. Led by Deep Blue from Italy, 16 partners across Europe are working together to develop tools that help authorities and first responders react quickly and efficiently.

🛠️ The project aims to build upon results from previous initiatives and deliver practical tools for optimized emergency management over the next three years (until November 2026).

🌍 SYNERGIES pursues various approaches to enhance disaster preparedness and management:

  • A training programme will prepare community leaders, teachers, social actors, and first responders for their roles in disaster situations, equipping them with essential skills and tools.
  • The SYNERGIES Knowledge Base, developed by the safety innovation center, will improve collaboration between authorities, responders, and citizens by offering communication tools and strategies.
  • An Atlas will serve as a comprehensive reference guide, compiling materials and best practices from previous projects to support authorities and responders.
  • A Serious Game will help integrating spontaneous volunteers into emergency plans and raise awareness about their importance.

📍 Between February and June 2025, initial prototypes will be tested and refined through workshops in these case study locations:

  • La Réunion: This Indian Ocean island is exposed to numerous natural hazards. Engaging the local population, including tourists, is of critical importance here.
  • Malta: The Mediterranean island is particularly vulnerable to earthquakes and potential communication breakdowns.
  • Rotterdam: The Dutch port city faces challenges such as flooding and chemical incidents.

“SYNERGIES aims to strengthen the ability of local authorities, responders (such as Civil Protection and Firefighters), and citizens to make and communicate informed decisions, enabling everyone to actively contribute to disaster management. A culture of prevention and preparedness relies on the engagement and collaboration of all social actors.” explains project coordinator Alessia Golfetti.
